The playing time at Festivals for this 8-a-side game is usually about two to four hours, so it never gets boring.

Terry Boswell

It is with deep regret that the club received the sad news Terry Boswell had passed away on New Years Eve. Terry was a former player and for many years both a  spectator and supporter of the club -  rarely missing a home game at Causeway Lane and  he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Details of the funeral  -  There will be a service for family & close friends only at Chesterfield Crem in the morning. A service will then be held at 3.30pm at St Helen’s Church, Darley Dale, followed by refreshments, etc., at Matlock Rugby Club..

Grant obtained for outdoor net refurbishment

Thanks to the hard work put in by Ian Ford, we have now been successful in obtaining a grant for the refurbishment of the two outdoor nets.
The “Better Derbyshire Dales” Fund has allocated a grant, which we will have to contribute towards.Plans are now being drawn up to have the nets fully refurbished in time for the start of the outdoor season.
With the rapidly increasing playing strength of the club, both in terms of senior and junior players, this development could not be better timed and will provide training opportunities, even if the ground is rain affected.

Well done Ian                                                                                                                                                                             (Dec 2017)

DCB organise half term coaching at Highfield Sports Hall for boys and girls aged  6 to 11.

The DCB have arranged a weeks worth of junior coaching at Highfields School for the February half Term 2018. This is the first time they have ventured into Matlock and the course is aimed at beginners within the “Junior School” ages groups. It would be nice to have the club represented so if you have friends or family with children wanting to learn the game then this could give first timers a kick start to their cricketing career and improve the technique of players who have already started learning the game. This would compliment the clubs winter junior (Kwik) cricket coaching the details of which can be found further down the page.

                                                                                                                                                                                                            (Dec 2017)

Winter nets  start in January 2018

It doesn't seem that long ago that we were saying goodbye to the 2017 season, but now, with the Winter nets booked for Matlock CC, eyes and minds are starting to look ahead to what should be an exciting 2018 season. With two senior teams, three junior hardball teams and the mighty Kwik cricketers and "All Stars" to back them up the club have plenty to plan ahead.

With this in mind the winter net sessions, which are all scheduled to take place in the Highfields Upper School Sports Hall, are now planned as follows:-

  • Kwik cricket commences on Sunday 7th January 2018 and runs from 5:30pm till 7:00pm
  • Junior hardball cricket commences on Monday 8th January 2018 and runs from 6:00pm till 7:00pm
  • Senior net sessions commence on Monday 8th January 2018 and run from 7:00pm till 9:00pm

A charge of £3 will have to be leved to pay for both the hall and the support coaching put in place.

Anyone wishing to join the club can contact us through the email link which can be found on the "Contact Page" - we'll get right back to you.

U11 hardball team win the league at the first attempt

Setting out on their first season of cricket in May of this year, the Matlock Lads were full of confidence after a winter of training, but no one expected them to go through the season undefeated. After impressive performances with both bat and ball the squad proved themselves to be capable of holding their own against teams contained players who already had a number of years cricketing experience. The success was down to an overall team effort which every player shoudl be proud of. The presentation of the league trophies will take place at the Junior Section "End of Season" bash, due to be held at the ground on 3rd September.

Well done lads.

Club helps Matlock Derwent Valley Lions Club

Although unable to help Matlock Derwent Valley Lions celebrate the centenary of Lions International on 26th August due to a league fixture on the ground, they were more than happy to contribute to The Lions fund raising efforts on the day.

Seen here is the cricket club's captain for the day Drew Mullaney handing over the cheque for £100 to Lions President Bill Lansdowne as the Lions mascot "Roary" gives as approving roar.

All Stars success

Matlock CC commitment to the All Stars programme was rewarded when they recieved an unexpected announcement that they had been named the winners of the DCB All Stars Hospitality Award. The DCB announced that the club will receive a hositality package of their own which will be to a Derbyshire County T20 match against Lancashire on 25th July when 10 members of the club will be the guests of DBC. Congratulations to everyone at the club involved with hosting the All Stars programme.

Wet Wicket Beer Festival.

This years festival was a huge success with double the number of guests attending over the previous year.

Rob Lowe provided his usual mix of award winning real ales and with Pat's pie and pea supper filling a corner midway through the evening everything was set for the fun and games.

The water slide was enjoyed all evening by the children and a closely fought golfing competition was won by Kieran Mullaney.

Thank you also to Steve Haslam for a varied and entertaining quiz.

ECB All Stars Cricket 2017

A Fantastic start to the All Stars Cricket sessions with 30 children in attendance. These were nice numbers as they allowed the coaching staff to ensure all the children were involved in the activities and kept entertained throughout the evening.

The Matlock Meadows Ice Cream was just reward for the hard work put in by everyone - including the coaches. Well done Andrea, Ray and Steve.

Green light given by Derbyshire Dales Planning Committee

At the Planning Meeting of Derbyshire Dales District Council held at the Town Hall, Matlock on Tuesday evening of 13th December, Council Members gave unanimous support to the new sign designed to highlight the clubs presence and provide contact details for anyone wiling to play or become involved with the club.

The sign was erected for a very short while earlier this year but had to be temporarily removed until formal Planning consent was received. This came on Tuesday evening and the sign will now add to the clubs drive for attracting new members as well as allowing contact details to be permanently on display at the ground.

The sign also acknowledges the fact that the ground is now to be know as "The Maazi Cricket Area" in acknowledgement of the substantial sponsorship offered by the restaurants owner Irfan Shabir.
